BOARD STATEMENT ON EXAMINATION PHILOSOPHY/EXPECTATIONS/GOALS

The examinations assume some basic technical knowledge and mathematical ability (more as one advances through the levels) but the examinee is not expected to know all answers by heart. It is an open book examination and, among other things, tests your ability to search for and find information. The examinee must be flexible and adaptive.

The certification is something that others in the industry need to be able to rely on and so the examinations are comprehensive and require knowledge on older as well as newer technology. Knowledge of historical context in measurement science is important.

The program is not certifying on task-specific knowledge as much as a broad based, industry-wide, knowledge relevant to the profession.

At each level, the tests strive to asses minimum competencies expected within the industry.

NSPS strives to establish and further common interests, objectives, and political effort that would help bind the surveying profession into a unified body in the United States.

Governance: The National Society of Professional Surveyors Inc. is governed by a Board of Directors. The NSPS Board of Directors meets twice per year.   NSPS has working agreements with state surveying organizations which are represented on the NSPS Board of Directors, and with the NSPS Foundation, Inc.
