- Future of Surveying
The types of Certification shown in the List are Hydrographer, Inshore Hydrographer, and Offshore Hydrographer. The only Certification presently awarded is Hydrographer.
Before the advent of the Global Positioning System (GPS) and other modern systems for hydrography the distinction between Inshore and Offshore Hydrographer was primarily based upon the positioning system and map projection requirements, and on the distance of the survey from the positioning system reference stations. Separate project type examinations were given for the two categories.
When GPS, differential GPS, and kinematic GPS became universally used for most hydrographic projects it was no longer reasonable to distinguish between Inshore and Offshore Hydrographer. At that time the designation was changed to Certified Hydrographer, and the examination was changed to a proctored multiple choice examination covering all phases of hydrography whether inshore or offshore.
The list of Hydrographers includes duplicate name listings based on the type of certification the individual holds.
This list of Active Certified Hydrographers is based on the statements of the individuals. It is the responsibility of any user of this list to verify the individual's qualifications relative to your requirements.
