Jim started surveying in 1968 in the state of Maryland.  He has surveyed on the east coast, Canada and the west coast.  Jim is a Professional Land Surveyor in Oregon and Washington. He is also a Certified Federal Surveyor (CfedS).

For twenty-three years Jim was an instructor at Renton Technical College teaching the Land Surveying program.  During this time Jim has also served on the State of Washington Department of Natural Resources Survey Advisory Board, and the Architects and Engineers Legislative Council.  Jim has taught for the Land Surveyors Association of Washington (LSAW) South and North Puget Sound chapters PLS refresher courses, and was an Adjunct instructor at Seattle University teaching surveying to engineering students. Jim has taught workshops for the LSAW state conference, the NSPS conferences, and the Washington Council of County Surveyors, as well as workshops in surveying for attorneys and engineers. He has published over twenty articles in state and national magazines.  

Jim is an active member of the Land Surveyors Association of Washington, and the National Society of Professional Surveyors.  In 1990 he was chosen as the Washington State Associate Surveyor of the Year and in 2010 was chosen as Washington State Surveyor of the year by his colleagues in LSAW.    He is also the past president of the Land Surveyors Association of Washington, the education committee chairman, and the Washington State Director to the National Society of Professional Surveyors.




NSPS strives to establish and further common interests, objectives, and political effort that would help bind the surveying profession into a unified body in the United States.

Governance: The National Society of Professional Surveyors Inc. is governed by a Board of Directors. The NSPS Board of Directors meets twice per year.   NSPS has working agreements with state surveying organizations which are represented on the NSPS Board of Directors, and with the NSPS Foundation, Inc.
