NSPS Day on the Hill
With the restrictions on activities and gatherings due to Coronavirus, the NSPS Day on the Hill on April 1 has been cancelled.
In its place, the NSPS Government Affairs Consultants, John M. Palatiello & Associates, Inc. are developing a method by which NSPS members will be able to participate in a "Virtual Day on the Hill".
This will likely include conference calls and web conferences between NSPS members from a given state and the Congressional delegation (Congressmen, Senators and staff) from that state. NSPS members will be able to participate from their home or office, without traveling to Washington, DC, to participate in these remote, virtual meetings to discuss key issues affecting the surveying profession. Just as appointments are arranged in advance for a traditional Day on the Hill, these virtual discussions via conference calls and web conferences will be scheduled with the Congressional offices in advance and training on the conduct of these conference calls and web conferences will be provided.
Members of Congress and their staffs are singularly focused on the Coronavirus at the present time. Once things settle down and attention can be paid to issues other than the Coronavirus, the NSPS Virtual Day on the Hill program will be unveiled and implemented. The patience and understanding of NSPS members in these challenging times is appreciated.
Standard/Default Infrastructure Paragraph:
Infrastructure projects require quality and accurate surveying, mapping, and geospatial data, products and services. Infrastructure—the physical framework of transportation, energy, communications, water supply, and other systems—and construction management—the overall planning, coordination, and control of a project from beginning to end (planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance) depend on surveying, mapping, and geospatial data. Their applications provide valuable productivity, safety, and cost-saving benefits to infrastructure improvement projects and associated construction management.
Then proceed to the following issue per Committee of jurisdiction...
Given Senator_____/Representative_______ membership on the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works/Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, NSPS would like to discuss the role of the surveying profession for the various kinds of infrastructure projects as well as the inclusion of a legislative provision leveraging the expertise of the surveying profession.
Given Senator_____/Representative_______ membership on the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions/House Committee on Education and Labor, NSPS would like to discuss the important role licensing of surveyors plays in protecting the public health, safety and welfare as well as the sponsorship of a “sense of the Congress” resolution highlighting this distinction in the context of overall occupational licensing reform.
Given Senator_____/Representative_______ membership on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, House Committee on Energy and Commerce, NSPS would like to discuss the need to recognize that geospatial imagery and data collection, usage, and application is a valued part of the American economy as well as the inclusion of exemption language for surveying, mapping, and geospatial data collection and related services in privacy bills.
***If a Senator/Representative does not have membership on any of the aforementioned Committees, then use the "Standard/Default Infrastructure Paragraph" by itself.***
