The NSPS Political and Legislative Alert Team (PLAT) is an arm of NSPS that mobilizes grass roots action on national public policy issues of interest to the surveying profession.  The purpose of PLAT is to identify and engage surveyors who know, have relationships with, or are willing to establish relationships with members of Congress to influence policy in a manner favorable to the profession.

NSPS is soliciting volunteers from across the nation to identify members who are willing and able to communicate with members of Congress to advocate NSPS positions.  The goal of PLAT is to have an identified and engaged surveyor for each U.S. Senator and Representative.

When the NSPS national team (staff, consultants and JGAC leadership) become aware of an issue, legislation or other national policy action where grass roots communications by surveyors with their member of Congress will help inform, persuade, and motive a national elected official to act in a manner favorable to NSPS, PLAT members will be notified and asked to contact that national legislator in a timely and effective manner.  NSPS will provide PLAT members with background information on the issue, talking points, and the requested action and desired political or legislative action to be taken.
